Practical Example Verification
Verification scope for the four lessons from an empty project to Grabber.
Examples are checked in an isolated Windows VM project with GameMaker runtime 2023.11.1.160. The test project loads the same event files as the downloadable examples without changing physics or the API.
Results — 21 October 2026#
All four lessons compiled and ran sequentially in four test rooms. Result: 47 runtime checks passed, 0 failures. Published GML events are identical in both languages and to the downloadable files.
- World startup, valid bodies, Character and Grabber; Draw execution and bodies reaching the debug renderer.
- Crate landing; Character movement, stopping, jumping and landing.
- Acquisition, click release, wheel distance adjustment, throwing with velocity and release when controls unlock.
- Rejection above the mass limit and with grab_enabled disabled.
- Resource cleanup and world shutdown between rooms and on exit, without Jolt API errors.
What this test does not establish#
The test uses a fixed 1/60 s step and synthetic input added only to the test copy. Movement uses the public API; Grabber button sampling is replaced internally. Physical WASD/Tab input, cursor locking, mouse feel, manual RMB rotation and scene appearance require the manual checks described in the lessons. R realignment is triggered, but its resulting orientation is not measured separately. Other platforms, YYC and other runtime versions are not verified by this run.
Stage 5 — documentation walkthrough#
Browser checks covered navigation from the course overview to lessons, the Installation link, Copy → Copied feedback and switching the Grabber lesson to English. File/event mapping, reader checklists and explanations of RMB/R, restarting and diagnostics were added.
