Introduction

Installation

Adds the JoltPhysics extension and its companion GML scripts to a GameMaker project.

The public package is not available yet. This page documents the planned local-package workflow and the checks a release build will require, so the final download can be connected without redesigning the documentation.

Planned requirements#

RequirementCurrent target
PlatformWindows x64
Native engineJolt Physics 5.6.0
Bridge API5
GameMaker project64-bit Windows export with native extensions enabled

Planned package installation#

  • Download the future JoltPhysics Windows x64 .yymps release package.
  • Open the target GameMaker project and choose Tools → Import Local Package.
  • Select the package and import the JoltPhysics extension plus all companion scripts and shaders included by the release.
  • Confirm that the JoltPhysics extension contains JoltBridge_x64.dll.
  • Build a Windows x64 target and run the verification code below.

Expected package contents#

GML
extensions/JoltPhysics/
    JoltPhysics.yy
    JoltBridge_x64.dll

scripts/
    jolt_api
    jolt_high_level
    jolt_shapes
    jolt_debug_renderer
    // Additional feature scripts included by the selected release

The exact release bundle may change before publication. The high-level API depends on its companion GML scripts; importing only the DLL extension is not a complete installation.

Verification#

GML
show_debug_message("Jolt bridge API: " + string(jolt_api_version()));

if (jolt_start()) {
    show_debug_message("JoltPhysics initialized");
    jolt_stop();
} else {
    var error = jolt_get_error();
    show_debug_message(error.context + ": " + error.message);
}

Expected result#

  • jolt_api_version() returns 5 for the current bridge.
  • jolt_start() returns true and creates the managed default world.
  • jolt_stop() returns true and releases the runtime.
  • The game output contains no missing DLL or missing function error.

Development-project use#

Until a release package exists, the repository's demo project is the authoritative integration environment. Manual copying into unrelated projects is unsupported because the extension, scripts, shaders, and resource ordering are still evolving together.

JoltPhysics.yy metadata report extensionVersion 0.5.4 and Windows x64 / Jolt Physics 5.6.0. This identifies the current workspace and does not establish a public download.

The workspace audit confirms the demo project, JoltPhysics extension, DLL and companion GML/shaders. It does not establish a public distribution package. resourceVersion in .yy is a GameMaker resource-format version, not an extension release. Continue using the verified complete project rather than mixing arbitrary DLL and script versions.
